However, it wasn’t treated as the obstacle it actually posed since apparently Brian didn’t care at all about the repercussions that his actions in regards to this have on him. There was a little bit of fake/pretend dating included in this story which is usually a trope that I absolutely adore.

Now, if Brian were very protective of keeping his identity secret, that could’ve been a plot point, however this internet friendship that didn’t go beyond emails, texts and chat conversations was never even questioned. I also really liked the trope of ‘internet friends’ that this included, though with those I always find it so unrealistic that these kids have been friends for years but never even exchanged pictures, become Facebook friends, let alone had Skype calls that lasted until 5 AM which would’ve given Brian’s identity away immediately. Brian is what seems like the ficticious version of a Disney-actor who tries to make a name for himself in ‘serious’ productions but fails due to his reputation as a lady killer. I thought that the overall plot-structure was good, although the end was dragged out a bit.įirst of all, this had a celebrity as a main character which I loved. I had incredibly low expectations going in to this, so I was pretty surprised when I realized that this book wasn’t just one big shit-show (pardon my language). While Ella is dealing with the aftermath of her accident, bullying in a new school, and returning to her online prescence, Brian is juggling the press junket, his annoying co-star whom he has to fake a relationship with, and his director-father whose team controls his entire life. to her absentee dad and his new family: a model-turned-stepmother and her twin daughters. Ella has found a best friend in Cinder, her online friend who she found through their mutual love of a sci-fi series that is about to be adapted into a movie, only Ella doesn’t know that Cinder is actually a well-known actor named Brian who is going to be playing the role of the male romantic interest.Ī major car crash kills her mother and leaves Ella in a coma for several weeks, so all communication between her and Cinder/Brian is cut off.
